Cross Country
The little chestnut mare Mikayla had gotten some time ago was an eager 6 year old. The people she'd bought her from had trained her for eventing, but hadn't had any time to keep up with the training or showing. Which left Mikayla with this cute little pasture ornament. Mikayla wasn't too big on pasture ornaments. If she was going to take care of a horse that horse would have to earn their feed, unless there were any underlying conditions that made them incapable of performing. Even then, they'd be put out to pasture to ensure another generation of quality walers. Mikayla was taking it slow with the little mare, slowly train the hay belly off of her with trail rides. Mikayla's intermediate students love taking her on trail rides and working her in beginning dressage in the lessons.

It was autumn when Mikayla finally took her down one of the longer trails that was used for cross country training. Humayda was just as eager as ever, flying over the various obstacles... except the water ones. The small mare would pause right before the water and paw at it. If it hadn't been for Mikayla's urging, the mare probably would've tried rolling in the creek having already soaked her rider, tack, and herself with her splashing. That ended up being Mikayla's priority for the day, to get the mare through the water part of the course without stopping to play in it. If the mare hinted at slowing from the trot she'd be urged into a canter making it more difficult to slow for the water. By the end of the exercise Mikayla was soaked to the bone and the sky was just beginning to get cloudier. To dry off, they took the path that had least obstacles on the way back down the trail to the stables. A little less than a mile away from reaching the main stable, Mikayla dismounted and walked the flaxen chestnut, a habit she'd created years ago when she found at the end of a trail ride, if you walked the last bit you didn't have to spend extra time cooling down the horse because the horse would almost always be cooled down when you got to the grooming stalls.

Show Jumping

It was spring before Mikayla had the chance to personally work with Humayda again. The beginning jumping class were always complaining about how the mare over-jumped the small jumps, dislodging their seats. Mikayla had seen it first hand when the mare had gone over a jump almost 1 foot too high. It must've been a lack of the right exercises for the little red mare, because when Mikayla got in the saddle she could practically feel the excitement impatiently twitching through the mare's muscles.  They started off small, a regular workout session going over the different gaits, then the ground poles.  She was very much still energetic once the normal hour and a half routine was finished, so Mikayla went on ahead with the plan to try the larger jumps. She didn't want to try too high, worried about the mare's height going against her jumping abilities and the addition of a full-grown adult's weight. Although plenty of Mikayla's students were taller than her own 5'5.

When they hit the 1 meter height, the mare's tension was almost completely gone. Humayda was quite a wonder going over the jumps like there was no tomorrow. Mikayla must've taken the turn too fast or something though, because as they came upon the standard the mare slid to a stop. Mikayla frantically grabbed onto whatever she could grab, her left hand gripping the mare's neck. She ended up half on the mare's neck, trying to hold on and push herself back into the saddle. Humayda backed away from the jump, ears flicking as if she were trying to understand what type of riding involved the person to practically lay atop her neck. Mikayla carefully dismounted, seeing how she wasn't going to be able to slide back into the saddle from that angle.

"Well that was fun. Let's not do that again." She mumbled, as she climbed back in the saddle. They'd have to work on the mare's turns.

Dressage
The air was crisp with the smell of rain hanging in the air. Rays of light peeked out from the dark clouded sky, hitting the ground like spotlights at a show. Mikayla was working the last horse for the evening. It was vital to her that all the horses at her stable were well versed in dressage. Humayda was no different in that manner. The dark chestnut mare had a very willing personality, if not one that was trying to be one step ahead of her rider. That was her problem with the beginner students, she didn't let them figure it out on their own, she always tried to fill in the empty spaces of their commands. When she tried it with Mikayla, it always back-fired because Mikayla never worked in such obvious patterns. When the mare felt Mikayla shift ever so slightly, she tried to take it ahead a further step, only to be pulled back into a different gait. She'd make for a very nice cow-horse for some beginner who relied heavily on the horse's mind. It's not that Mikayla didn't want the mare to think ahead, she did. She just didn't want the mare to move ahead without the right cue at the exact right time.

Water Fun
The heat of the sun beat down on Mikayla's pale skin. She'd been waiting for summer to come, ready for the time to tan. She missed Australia sometimes, for it's heat. Although, once you were in the middle of Australia's summer the only thing you wanted to do was complain about how disgustingly hot and sweaty it made you.  Up in Idaho, the sun warmed you and burnt the grass near the end of summer, leaving way for fires thanks to random lightning storms.  Mikayla took it upon herself to spend time bathing the mares that day. Her current victim was Humayda. Not that the mare was much of a victim as she leaned into the hose's spray, trying to shove her face into it's jet. Mikayla was in her bikini, knowing no matter what she did she was going to get wet regardless of which horse.
"You're such a water-hog" she laughed as the mare shook, sending droplets of water everywhere. Mikayla turned off the water and began soaping up the mare's dark body. She used Cowboy Magic's detangler and shine, which worked amazingly for dogs, horses, and human hair. The red mare licked her lips as Mikayla massaged it into her coat, removing all the dirt that had avoided the average grooming session. Humayda was just about ready to start showing in the lower classes, so Mikayla intended to keep the small mare in top condition.
